Brighton Restaurant Awards: Best Pub Grub

We wanted to know about the best pub grub in the city, and beyond, this category was open to everything from country pub restaurants to gastropubs Brighton, from traditional fare to modern cuisine. You voted in thousands as you drank and ate your way around our famous pub scene, well done for all your hard work.

Ascension Cider sponsors the Best Pub Grub category for the 2019 BRAVOs. Forget the dodgy looking pie and a packet of crisps, we say eat well, drink well and live your best self!

1st place

Winning this year’s Best Pub Grub, and keeping in the top three for a second year, The Lost Boys may need to consider a name change to The Win Boys. Their feel-good overloaded baskets of wings and behemoth burgers served with thick lashings of finger-licking sauces keep you coming back time and again.

2nd place

Moving up from third to second place in this year’s BRAVOs is Baby Bao, the Taiwanese street food kitchen at The Pond. Their combination of soft, chewy steamed bao filled with an irresistible combination of fresh vegetables, umami sauces and marinations is clearly growing in popularity. Will the 2020 BRAVOs see this baby fully grown?

3rd place

Prize catch for a second year, The Urchin certainly keeps you hooked on its cockle-warming combination of shellfish and craft ale. Where The Urchin excels here as well, is in keeping it affordable, unpretentious and fun; because way before oysters and craft beer became the cuisine de rigueur, it was the staple of coastal pubs.
