What is the sustainability checklist?
The sustainability checklist is a questionnaire designed to help any hospitality business evaluate where they are on their sustainability journey. You can complete the checklist online or view or print the questions. The downloaded version gives you a chance to review all the questions or even to fill in a paper version which you can also submit if you prefer.
Where did it come from?
The checklist is based on a list of questions designed by researchers at the University of Brasília, in Brasil. The questions have been refined and tested with 8 venues across the city by academics at the University of Brighton to suit our Brighton and Hove audience. Findings from those interviews have been used to further refine the questionnaire.
What is included in the checklist?
The checklist covers 5 key areas for sustainability:
- Water
- Energy and gas supply
- Menu and food waste
- Waste reduction, materials and chemicals
- Social sustainability
By answering the questions in each section you can evaluate where you are in your sustainability journey and consider areas where you can, or would like to, do more.
What will I need in order to complete the checklist?
To complete the checklist will take at least 15 minutes. It will help if you are fully informed about all the sustainability processes within your business. It might be easier and quicker to complete the checklist as a team.
What will happen with my results?
Your results will be shared with you. This will include your Sustainability Level and a badge you can use across social media.
As this is part of a longer study on the impact of the checklist itself, an anonymised version of the data you provide will be analysed by researchers from the University of Brighton
