As we continue our journey toward sustainability, we are excited to introduce a new system to recognise and reward businesses that are making meaningful strides in becoming more sustainable.
We understand that sustainability is a journey, and there’s always more to learn and do. Not every business is in a position to implement changes in every recommended area, and some suggestions may not be applicable. Our goal is to support and celebrate those venues that are committed to making a difference.
Identifying Sustainable Venues
It’s important for us and the hospitality venues themselves to create a way for the public to identify and support restaurants, pubs, and cafes that are implementing sustainable changes.
The sustainability checklist is free and available to ALL hospitality venues. It covers five key areas:
- Water
- Energy and gas supply
- Menu and food waste
- Waste reduction, materials, and chemicals
- Social sustainability
You can go straight to filling in the checklist or you can take a look at all the questions here.
Levels of Sustainability
Venues that complete the sustainability checklist will be classified into one of three levels:
- Sustainability Explorer: Venues that have started their sustainability journey, answering “doing” in fewer than 50% of the checklist categories and questions.
- Sustainability Leader: Venues that have answered “doing” in more than 50% of the checklist categories and questions.
- Sustainability Champion: Venues that have answered “doing” in over 75% of the questions in at least one category
Get involved
All venues that complete the Sustainability Checklist will be:
- Entered into the BRAVO Sustainable Champions category for 2025. Only venues that have completed the checklist will be entered into this category.
- Featured on the Sustainable Restaurants page which will be promoted to the restaurant going public.
- Provided with a badge recognising their status, along with artwork for use on their website, social media, and print materials. A window sticker will also be provided to the venue.
Adapting to Change
Sustainability is a dynamic field, with laws, knowledge, and tools evolving over time. We propose that the checklist questions and scoring be reviewed annually to ensure they remain relevant. One of our tasks is to identify the best mechanism for doing this.

With so many venues doing incredible work, we can’t wait to hear more of your stories and share case studies that inspire others.
