Assistant Restaurant Manager / Duty Manager – The Vine House, Brighton
The Vine House is a new independent restaurant and wine bar in Kemptown and we are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Assistant Restaurant Manager / Duty Manager to join our team. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in establishing and developing a new business. We have a 60-cover restaurant, a 40-cover garden, a private events space and bar and a strong focus on good food, excellent service and interesting wines.
We are looking for someone who genuinely enjoys hospitality and is confident taking responsibility for a busy service. You will work closely with the owners and management team and will have real responsibility for the day-to-day running of the bar and restaurant.
This Role Includes
The successful candidate will be a hands-on member of the management team, helping to ensure that service runs smoothly and that our guests receive consistently excellent service. Responsibilities will include:
Running restaurant services and taking responsibility for the team when on duty
Leading, motivating and supporting front-of-house staff
Welcoming guests and maintaining a high level of service throughout their visit
Dealing confidently with guest queries and complaints
Supporting staff training and development
Assisting with rotas, opening and closing procedures and cashing up
Helping to manage stock, ordering and wastage
Maintaining high standards of cleanliness, presentation and service
Working closely with the kitchen team to ensure smooth service
Supporting the owner and management team with the ongoing development of the business
Taking full responsibility for the restaurant when the senior management team is not present
This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys being on the floor and leading by example.
Skills Required
We are looking for someone with experience in a premium, busy restaurant, wine bar or similar hospitality environment and are seeking candidates with :
Previous supervisory or management experience in hospitality
Experience running a busy restaurant service and / or a busy bar
Excellent customer service and communication skills
Good organisational skills who is able to remain calm under pressure
Leadership experience
Good commercial awareness and an understanding of labour, stock and wastage
A natural tendency to take pride in the standards of the restaurant
Willingness to work evenings, weekends and busy periods
An interest in food and wine. However detailed wine knowledge is not essential, we are more interested in finding someone with the right attitude, personality and hospitality skills who is keen to learn.
