Weeknotes: July 1st

How is it already July 1st? Time is racing and I seem to have failed at my desire to publish weeknotes “every couple of weeks.” Rather than quietly give up, I will persevere.

Work on the Sustainability Toolkit and checklist continues at pace. Case studies are being recorded, edited, and written up, and the checklist is being tested. It’s a lot of work alongside everyone’s day jobs. This is something we will have to consider carefully in the subsequent phases of work. Massive thanks to the team who are working hard to make sure this happens. The need to create a sustainable toolkit in a sustainable way will be an important part of what we learn in this phase.

We have also launched the initial version of the website where the toolkit will be hosted. Check it out here: https://restaurantsbrighton.co.uk/sustainability-toolkit/. Currently, it contains minimal content, but we will be adding more resources and updates soon.

An unplanned but not unexpected side-effect of this project has been discovering many additional useful resources and meeting new people. A follow-on task from this phase will be to share these resources in a useful way.

Our next big deadline is the roundtable event on July 9th. This discussion will focus on what policy and system changes can best support hospitality venues in achieving their sustainability goals. If you haven’t been invited but would like to participate, please email me at: hello@restaurantsbrighton.co.uk.

As with any pilot, we are inevitably learning a huge amount about how to deliver a project like this. It’s looking good, and we are very excited to start sharing the outputs.
