We meet Adam Smith, the owner of BRAVO Award winning The Roundhill pub on Ditchling Road in Brighton.

Adam, who also owns The Joker and The Goose on Worthing seafront, shares his vision for creating a community hub at The Roundhill.

Describe The Roundhill pub experience to someone who hasn’t been before.

Ultimately, aside from being the only vegan pub in Brighton, The Roundhill at its core is a home away from home providing a warming and friendly environment which is much loved by locals and is instantly adopted by any newcomers.

Whether you are dining, popping in for a cocktail with a bestie or meeting a big group of friends The Roundhill has you covered with the cosy corner booths, intimate tables of two, gossip window seats or banquet tables.

Not forgetting the sun trap alfresco area which wraps around the pub.

Having the atmosphere of “everyone knows everyone” the service is personable and attentive.

Anyone new can expect a range of small plates, comforting staples and experimental special offers taking inspiration from around the globe.

All to be washed down with innovative cocktails, local beers, organic wine and top tier spirits.

Some would say they can’t believe it’s vegan.

You have a great alfresco area, what’s going on there this summer?

Being blessed with sun from morning till night enables us to host many outdoor events ranging from BBQ’s, charity events, sunny quizzes, themed dinners and private events such as weddings.

Even with winter approaching the outdoor area still stands as a desirable choice when the awning is out and the heaters are on.

What does Adam Smith do at The Roundhill?

Since adopting The Roundhill family 1.5 years ago, and knowing how integral it is to the community, I wanted to ensure that aspect wasn’t lost but celebrated and showcased by enhancing the decor, and evolving the offering to highlight the hidden gem that was already here.

My role is to give my incredible and creative team a platform, be ahead of plant based trends and ensure our joint passion for sustainability is maintained.

How long have you been at the venue and which places have you worked at previously?

I took over The Roundhill January 2023 – but I also own The Joker (our sister pub) and the lovely Goose on Worthing sea front.

My soul is very much at The Roundhill however being vegan myself for 5 years its become my hobby and passion.

Which are your most popular nights?

Aside from our renowned BRAVO award winning Sunday Roasts; we are so much more than that.

My personal favourites are our Pasta Wednesdays which have two new homemade pastas every week and a pint or a glass of wine for £10.

We also have the ‘Around the World’ one off special events every 6 weeks which gives the team a chance to push the boundaries with vegan food.

What plans do you have in the next 6 months? New menu, events, changes to anything?

It’s a new world for hospitality, especially for veganism which seems to be a distant memory.

Therefore, it is crucial that we keep on top of our game which we always strive to do.

We do have a new and ever evolving menu, regular events including open mic, and we go big on the much loved calendar of events.

Our plans for the future are to continue to be a hub for our loyal regulars, provide an adaptable space for memorable moments, and to protect and grow the beautiful name that is The Roundhill!
