Helm Gallery

Helm is a unique, creative, inclusive art space with a fabulous cocktail and coffee bar - befitting one of the country’s most creative cities.

Why You’ll Like Helm Gallery in Brighton:

Standing proud at the corner of Jubilee Street and North Road, right in the centre of Brighton’s cultural quarter, is Helm Gallery. The vision of entrepreneur and art collector Luke Davis (Founder and CEO at Rockwater) and curator Eden Maseyk, Helm Gallery opened in September 2023 with the deliberate intention of making what might otherwise be an exclusive (even intimidating) space, more inclusive. That being said, this is an exciting, cutting-edge gallery which oozes glamour. There’s often a DJ on Friday night when lights are dimmed for more of a vibe.

Come in for a drink

Everyone is welcome at Helm Gallery. The coffee and cocktail bar is positioned right at the entrance of the venue to immediately welcome visitors and passersby. Come in for a drink and stay for the art (or visa versa).

On the ground floor at Helm Gallery, alongside the bar is the gallery area which shows a rotating selection of incredible, vibrant contemporary art. Downstairs is the exhibition hall that hosts a schedule of cutting-edge shows, events, classes and immersive experiences throughout the year.

The vast floor to ceiling windows which run along one side of the venue, flood the ground floor with light and allow people passing to enjoy the art on display from the street. The bar serves excellent coffee from local, speciality coffee roasters Craft House Coffee, There’s also a good range of soft drinks, Lo / No beer, wine and mocktails (tell the team what you fancy and they’ll make something delicious for you!). A few bar snacks are available to enjoy with your drinks.

The extremely well curated drinks menu is rich with seasonal craft cocktails, wine and beer. The delicious cocktails have been created using premium spirits and high-quality ingredients (yes, you can taste the difference!) If the ingredients are available the bar team will happily whip up a classic or create something to your taste.

The compact wine list has been created by Enotria with the aim of pleasing every pallet (and wallet) and there are some very smart champagnes on offer if you’re so inclined. Bottled beer is behind the bar and a few are offered on tap including the bespoke Helm lager created by Shepherd Neame (a fresh 4%). Check out the artist-designed label.

RB LOVES

Right in the heart of the gallery is a small library of wonderful art books. Visitors are free to lounge on the huge, grey ottoman while they pursue the collection. We love that the gallery team is on hand to answer questions and they assure us that at Helm, no question is a stupid question. Also, Helm is from Brighthelmstone – Brighton’s original name. Real.

Totally unique to Brighton! Helm Gallery is so friendly and welcoming to everyone! The bar upon entrance offers a great range of refreshments, lovely coffee and gorgeous cocktails. It’s the perfect spot to sit, taking in the beautiful interior and beautiful art whilst escaping the hustle and bustle of the busy streets, the atmosphere is warm, relaxed and inviting. When I’m not visiting Helm, I’m always so excited to drive past on my commute into work to see what new window displays they have! There really isn’t a place like this, thank you Helm for putting a bright and colourful, inclusive and friendly stamp on the streets of Brighton!
