Where to Eat During Brighton Festivals

Brighton’s festival calendar isn’t just about music, theatre and culture — it’s also one of the best times to explore the city’s food scene. From quick bites between events to long seaside dinners after a show, Brighton offers something for every festival itinerary.

Around Brighton Festival and Fringe, the North Laine and Lanes area is packed with independent restaurants, cafés and late-night dining spots, perfect for pre-theatre meals, post-show drinks and why not take advantage of the Brighton food and drink offers which are updated weekly.

During Brighton Pride, the seafront and Kemptown become the heart of the action, with plenty of casual dining, street food and vibrant bars within walking distance of the main parade and Preston Park.

For On The Beach concerts, Hove seafront is ideal for relaxed dining before or after a show, with beachside restaurants and summer terraces offering sunset views.

Best hotels near festival venues

Brighton fills up quickly during peak festival weekends, so booking accommodation early is essential. For Brighton Festival, Fringe and The Great Escape, the North Laine, Lanes and city centre areas keep you closest to venues though there are great options on Brighton Marina too. For seafront events like Pride and On The Beach, smaller boutique hotels along Brighton seafront and Kemptown offer easy access to the main action. Hove is a good option for slightly quieter stays while still being close to transport links and festival sites.

Getting around Brighton during events

Brighton is a compact city, making it easy to explore most festival venues on foot. During major events, however, roads and seafront areas can become busy, so walking or Beryl bikes are often the quickest option. Regular trains connect Brighton with London and the South Coast, while local buses run frequently between key areas like Hove, Kemptown and the city centre.

During Pride and large seafront concerts, allow extra travel time due to road closures and increased footfall.

Free festivals in Brighton

Brighton is known for its mix of ticketed and free cultural events throughout the summer. Brighton Fringe includes many free performances alongside ticketed shows, offering everything from street theatre to comedy pop-ups. The city also hosts free outdoor entertainment, live music and community-led events across parks and public spaces during the festival season. Brighton Pride weekend features free-to-watch elements including the Pride Parade, which draws huge crowds along the seafront and to different neighbourhoods across Brighton and Hove.

Family-friendly summer events in Sussex

The Brighton Children’s Parade on 2nd May is a vibrant, feel-good event that officially opens the Brighton Festival each May. Thousands of local schoolchildren take to the streets in colourful, handmade costumes, accompanied by music, dancing and giant creative sculptures. It’s a true celebration of community, creativity and young talent, drawing huge crowds across the city. Free to attend, the parade brings an electric atmosphere to Brighton, marking the start of festival season and showcasing the imagination and spirit that makes the city so unique.

Alongside Brighton’s major festivals, Sussex offers a wide range of family-friendly summer events. Outdoor venues like Brighton Open Air Theatre host relaxed daytime shows in a park setting. The Brighton Foodies Festival on Hove Lawns often has facilities for the children to enjoy such as the Children’s Cookery Theatre.  Further afield, countryside festivals and open gardens across Sussex provide space for families to enjoy live entertainment, food stalls and seasonal activities in a more relaxed environment.
