BRAVO award winners for
Best Sussex Restaurant
BEST RESTAURANTS IN Sussex 2024
If you’re looking for the best restaurant in Sussex, you’ve come to the right place. The Sussex food and drink scene is absolutely booming, amplified by rightly-deserved international interest in top-quality Sussex Sparkling wine and a local artistic renaissance. There are exciting restaurants in both the stunning countryside and in lovely county towns like Lewes, Worthing, Eastbourne, Hurstpierpoint and Alfriston.
The county boasts several Michelin starred restaurants as well as some of the best pubs in the country. The secret of this success? Sussex is blessed with an abundance of fresh, local produce and artisans on its doorstep, award-winning vineyards, stunning scenery, fabulous walks and historic attractions. On top of this Sussex restaurateurs ‘wunt be druv’ (they do it their own way!) resulting in a unique and vibrant hospitality scene.
One of the wonderful things about living in Brighton and Hove is just how easy it is to get out to Sussex’s when you fancy an adventure. The local hospitality and tourism industries work hand-in-hand to welcome millions of visitors every year. We know you’re going to love exploring the fabulous restaurants from 2024’s Best Sussex Restaurant category; try some great new places and revisit your favourites.
And the winner of the BRAVO for Best Sussex Restaurant goes to – Crabshack in Worthing. Huge congratulations to their team.
First place
Crabshack Worthing, Best Restaurant in Sussex 2024
Taking the top spot for a second year in a row is Crabshack in wonderful Worthing. This glorious beachside hangout has attracted the attention of the national press for its rustic, cool interiors, friendly welcome and, perhaps more importantly, the amazing quality of the fresh seafood dishes on its ‘small but perfect’ menu. Adored by locals, but firmly on the South Coast gastro-trail, Crabshack has a gorgeous terrace overlooking the Worthing seafront and English Channel beyond but the warm dining room is ideal for stormy days and the restaurant is busy year round. The menu changes daily to reflect the seasons and the daily catch of seafood and fish. It features delicious, classic dishes like Sicillian fish stew, homemade crabcakes, whole dressed crab and mixed platters to share with friends. If you’re not a Worthing native, it’s just 20 minutes down the coast from Brighton. Pop in for a tasty snack and a beer or stay for a feast. Either way, you’d be mad to miss out!
Second place
Parsons Table
Book your table now – the word is truly out! Ever popular with Arundel residents, The Parson’s Table features in The Michelin Guide and enters the BRAVOS for the first time at #2. Run by a passionate husband and wife team who bring decades of experience to the venture, The Parson’s Table celebrates locally sourced, seasonal food. Using classic cooking techniques, the precise menu delivers delicious, flavoursome dishes in a friendly informal dining room. A Sussex Classic.
Third place
Squisito
Described by its owners as ‘unauthenically’ Italian, Squisito is a new kid on the Sussex block. Making waves from its home in the red brick heart of the Lewes Needlemakers, Squisito (meaning ‘delicious’) offers ever-changing, well considered menus featuring delicious hand-made pastas and seasonal Italian dishes. Showcasing the best sustainable produce, primarily from Sussex and its environs, the restaurant is a firm favourite with the foodie crowd just a year after opening. There’s a friendly, relaxed, ‘pop in for a drink’ atmosphere but you can also stay all evening and enjoy the Chef’s Menu if the mood takes you…and frankly…it probably will!
