Steak your love on date night at Malmaison

If you’re a meat eater and delicious drink fan, it’s tongue-tizzling when someone puts ‘steak and cocktails’ into the same sentence. And it’s even better when a renowned boutique hotel whacks it on the menu with 50% off Flat Iron, New York Strip and Fillet options. Welcome to Malmaison Brighton’s Bar & Grill Special Thursday Steak Nights.

FOMO

Quite brilliantly, the Malmaison team asks wannabe half-pricers to book their Thursday evening steak night with the code ‘FOMO Steak Package’, knowing that the fear of missing out on 50% off will strike a chord. On our Thursday visit, there was a vibe of ‘the working week is almost over, and the weekend starts here’ with parties of all sizes enjoying the scene.

It’s great to see the Marina bustling. As Malmaison’s multiple yacht-viewing balconies filled up with pre-dinner cocktailers, you could imagine yourself on a palm-fringed terrace in Monaco or some other high-end holiday spot. Malmaison’s vibe is the upper end of the scale, and their dining room is decked out in comfy leather chairs with see-through partitions meshing that classy feel against informal elegance.

Flat Iron avec frites favourite

My hot date for the evening sparkled at the Flat Iron steak-frites option, choosing a peppercorn sauce to pop on top. With the charred edges and a tender centre, conveniently sliced to showcase cooking skill, it was a triumph: taste-filled and succulent.

I naturally tried the New York Strip, taking our menu sampling seriously. It came accompanied by black garlic and parsley butter and a side of creamed spinach gratin. Wiping the oozing, indulgent butter from my chin, the meat was juicy and medium-rare to absorb all the goodness.

Time to partake

There’s a delightful feel to the Malmaison Brighton Bar & Grill that offers a different element to the city. It’s away from the central crowds and a little Marina ecosystem in its own right, attracting a diverse group of eaters. Things always taste better with 50% off, but it tasted great anyhoo. Thursday night date nights are on. Fire up the grill!
