Unithai

Unithai Thai Supermarket | Thai Cafe – Restaurant

A true hidden gem, Unithai Supermarket on Church Road in Hove is nothing short of legendary among locals and food lovers alike.

The venue has no website, does no marketing, – it just has an avid fanbase of Brighton and Hove locals which creates queues out the door.

Beyond being an authentic Asian supermarket stocked with Thai essentials, Unithai is home to one of the most revered Thai cafés in the city.

Every day from around 11.45am, the back of the shop transforms into a no-frills, old-school Thai eatery, offering some of the best and most affordable Thai food you can find outside of Thailand itself. The café is a simple affair – a handful of small tables, basic décor, and service that’s refreshingly straightforward. Here, the focus is purely on the food – no gimmicks, no elaborate presentations, just bowls and plates packed with authentic, unforgettable flavours.

The menu is compact but perfectly formed, offering homemade Thai favourites freshly prepared each day. Expect fragrant curries, fiery stir-fries, perfectly balanced soups, and generous rice dishes that are bursting with flavour. Everything is cooked with a sense of pride and tradition, making every meal feel like a rare find.

Due to the tiny size of the café, seating is extremely limited – just four or five small tables. If you want to secure a spot, it’s essential to arrive early.

Our advice: aim to be there from 11.45am, and no later than 12.15pm, especially on busy days. It’s first come, first served – and it’s well worth the effort.

Unithai is a slice of genuine Thai street food culture, transported to the heart of Hove. Whether you’re a seasoned traveller missing the flavours of Bangkok or a first-timer looking for a true taste of Thailand, Unithai will steal your heart – and likely become your new lunchtime obsession.
