Honey Cake by Mary is Brighton’s best-kept secret in Hove, serving the iconic Russian honey cake, Medovik, reinvented and accompanied by quality coffee from Pelicano roastery. Mary Okzan, the owner, opened the cake shop early 2024 with a vision to create something unique in Brighton – a premium dessert shop selling Honey Cake and coffee. Her cakes are real showstoppers and a true treat, featuring 10+ layers of moist, honey-soaked sponge, sandwiched between layers of smooth, whipped cream – indulgent yet light, with the perfect balance of sweetness.
Mary offers a variety of Honey Cake flavours, from the classic caramel to pistachio, coffee, chocolate, and raspberry. One of Mary’s newest creations, banoffee, is one of her favourites so far!
The cafe is decorated with calm interiors and very ‘Instagrammable’ with its stylish decor and beautiful cakes. It’s well-lit with floor-to-ceiling windows that catch the sunlight throughout the day, and offers the option to sit alfresco out front or in the lush garden out back. It’s a lovely spot to catch up over coffee and cake, celebrate with friends, family, and even your dog. If you’re looking for a place to work, Mary welcomes remote workers.
The cakes can be bought by the slice, as a selection box, or whole if you have a celebration coming up. Mary also takes custom orders, so if you have specific flavours or decorations in mind, she can create a unique cake for your event, whether it’s a tiered wedding cake, birthday, or anniversary cake.
