The Sussex Ox Pub and Farm

An idyllic countryside pub offering locally sourced and organic British favourites and a bio-dynamic wine list.

RB loves

A proper country pub with a working farm just behind it. The Sussex Ox serves generous, seasonal food with ingredients that come straight from its own land or trusted local producers. With a big garden for summer, open fires for winter, and a laid-back atmosphere year-round, it’s a great Sussex stop-off for walkers, families, and anyone who likes a pint with a view.

What’s on the menu

Expect pub classics done properly – steaks dry-aged on site, rich pies, fresh coastal fish, and plenty of vegetarian and plant-forward options. You can pop in for a pint and a pork pie or take your time over a full three-course supper. Menus change with the seasons and the drinks list includes local ales, cocktails, and wines worth browsing.

Good to know

The Sussex Ox runs its own 100-acre farm, using regenerative, low-impact methods to raise pedigree Sussex cattle, South Downs lamb, and seasonal fruit and veg. Inside, there are plenty of cosy corners and a proper bar. Outside, one of the biggest pub gardens in Sussex gives you space to breathe – and room for the kids to run around. There are also private dining options for group celebrations or just a good knees-up with friends.

Everyone needs to visit this place! Diverse and delicious menu featuring local produce from their own farm and kitchen garden. Great vibe on a Saturday evening which is when we visited. Drinks list has something for everyone, from signature cocktails, organic wine and local craft brews. I’ve booked to go next Sunday for a roast, CAN’T WAIT.
