The Sussex Ox Pub and Farm

An idyllic countryside pub offering locally sourced and organic British favourites and a bio-dynamic wine list.

The Sussex Ox Pub with its own organic farm

Many Sussex pubs can claim to be the idyllic countryside venue offering locally sourced produce, although few can offer as much as The Sussex Ox pub.

This large Sussex Ox Pub offers a warm welcome to all in the beautiful setting of The South Downs. The characterful building, with three interlinking rooms, and fabulous Sussex garden with wonderful views make for the ideal venue no matter the occasion.Cocktails sat on a table next to the fireplace

Organic produce from their own farm

Where The Sussex Ox pub really comes into its own is in the sourcing of their meat and produce. Those acres of beautiful farmland that surround the pub, belong to the pub. This means that most of the meat on the menu has been organically reared within 3 miles of the pub, fed on farm grown crops and travelling less than 30 miles from field to fork. Not many pubs can claim that level of provenance.

Fresh, seasonal and creative menu

The farm is also one of the only commercial organic potato growers in East Sussex, and many of the fruits and vegetables come from the Sussex Ox Pub garden. Their commitment to organic farming and local produce is reflected in the menu, which celebrates Sussex produce and sourcing in creative dishes inspired by The South Downs.

Versatile menu

There are a range of menus available at The Sussex Ox Pub. The monthly changing Á la carte menu (available daily) features produce tasting best at the time and focusses on British dishes executed immaculately. There is a lighter lunch menu offering smaller plates for those post Sussex walk pick me ups and a Sussex Sunday roast menu is available from 12pm-8pm on Sundays. Everything on the plate is of the highest quality and prepared in house and from scratch. An early evening menu is also available on weekdays between 6-7 pm, offering two courses at just £15.

Everyone needs to visit this place! Diverse and delicious menu featuring local produce from their own farm and kitchen garden. Great vibe on a Saturday evening which is when we visited. Drinks list has something for everyone, from signature cocktails, organic wine and local craft brews. I’ve booked to go next Sunday for a roast, CAN’T WAIT.
