Meet our Family Reviewer: Lyndsey Stoner
I have lived in the Brighton area all my life, and now we are bringing up our 2 little girls, Darcie, 5 and Lila 2 in Seaford, just along the coast. I am a blogger, Muma on the Edge and love writing about my experiences as a Mum, sharing tips and funny tit bits about the wonderful world of Toddlerhood!
We love to eat out both as a couple and as a family. Recently, I have begun a quest to seek out the most child friendly eateries in East Sussex. We believe it’s a great way to socialise with your children, giving you a chance to talk and laugh together without running around a busy kitchen tripping over toys!
When I review I focus on the following: buggy space, high chairs, quality of the children’s menu, entertainment, speed of service, rest room facilities, attitude of waiting staff & other diners towards children- ultimately are families welcome? And of course the quality of the food and drink menus for us grown ups.
I can’t wait to get started and report back…
What areas are of great importance to you when you visit a restaurant?
My main focus whenever we visit a restaurant is always ‘will my children be welcome here’. We have two young girls of 2 and 5 years old. They both have fairly short attention spans and patience isn’t their strong point! So for us, a restaurant that provides a little entertainment in the form of colouring or games alongside swift service is always going to be a winner in my book. If we can manage to couple this with great tasting food then that really is the ultimate goal.
What has inspired you to become a food reviewer – or how did it the opportunity come about?
My husband and I have always loved eating out, it’s probably our favourite things to do actually. Sitting in a great restaurant for hours enjoying the company of great friends, choosing delicious dishes whilst my wine glass is kept topped up is an ideal (and rare!) weekend evening for me. The trouble we have had since having our little girls in tow is that few places manage to pull off the almost impossible task of appealing to both adults AND children. This is what has prompted me to start reviewing restaurants on my blog, and now, for Restaurants Brighton.
I wanted to pass on the child friendly gems that we find to other parents who might be desperately seeking the same balance as us; Great food & happy kids.
Which is your favourite food dish or genre of cuisine and why?
This is easy- by far my favourite cuisine has got to be Indian food. I absolutely couldn’t live without it. I try to emulate our favourite dishes from my own kitchen, but never quite seem to achieve that Je ne sais quoi. I am still on the look out for a child friendly Indian restaurant– our girls share my love of spicy food and would love to go! We love trying the different side dishes, the saucey mains are a personal favourite and I’m afraid the hotter the better. It’s a great cuisine to share and enjoy together- what’s not to love about Indian food?!
