Brunch, Lunch & Laptop Days at North Laine Cafe
North Laine Cafe has long been one of North Laine’s go-to spots for brunch, and the sheer size of the menu is a big part of the appeal. Fluffy pancake stacks come loaded with fresh blueberries and homemade compote or crisp smoked streaky bacon, with maple syrup on the side. The Brighton Stack piles a homemade hash brown, fried egg, free-range pork burger and smoked bacon into a toasted bun, while the Veggie Stack swaps in grilled halloumi, avocado salsa and a flat mushroom.
Fancy something with a bit more spice? The shakshuka brings eggs poached in a spiced tomato and red pepper sauce with crumbled feta, and the huevos rancheros layers smoky chipotle beans, melted cheese, a fried egg and avocado salsa on a toasted tortilla. Eggs Benedict comes five ways, including a smoked salmon Royale and a clever vegan version with spiced tempura tofu and homemade vegan hollandaise. The Full Laine Breakfast arrives in meat, veggie and vegan versions, and there’s a Half Laine Breakfast that’s perfect for younger diners.
At lunch, the focus turns to colourful bowls, sourdough sandwiches and wraps. Think the triple-decker North Laine Club with spiced chicken, bacon, mozzarella, avocado and basil pesto, a zingy Super Soba Noodle bowl with vegan kimchi and wasabi cashews, or crispy crumbed cod in The Laine Swimmer wrap. Add a side of garlic and rosemary sweet potato fries and you’re sorted.
The space itself makes it easy to stay a while. Sitting right next to the Numa hotel on Jubilee Street, North Laine Cafe is roomy and flooded with natural light, with plenty of space to spread out. Some people dash in for a flat white and a homemade pastry, others settle in with a laptop for the morning. There’s takeaway too, and for a limited time you can grab any coffee with a homemade savoury pastry for £5.

Mediterranean Small Plates & Evening Drinks at North Laine Cafe
This is the exciting new chapter for North Laine Cafe. From October 2026 the café transforms into a lively café bar on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, serving Mediterranean small plates from the afternoon until around 9.30pm.
The evening kitchen is led by new head chef Phil Stacey, a local chef whose CV includes Gingerman and a string of standout restaurants across Brighton and London. Expect tapas-style sharing plates drawing on Greek, Italian and Spanish cooking, made for picking, passing and lingering over with friends.
The evenings are fully licensed, with Spanish draught beer on tap, Wild Thing beer, wines and cocktails. The cocktail list already shows a playful side, from the Brighton Blush made with Brighton Gin, raspberry and lemon to a proper espresso martini shaken with fresh espresso. Alcohol-free options mean everyone at the table is looked after. It’s the kind of North Laine spot where one after-work drink quietly turns into a whole evening of plates and conversation.

RB Loves: Signature Highlights at North Laine Cafe
What struck us most about the North Laine Cafe was just how well thought out the menu is. There’s so much to choose from, and so many good options, that deciding what to order becomes half the fun. When we visited Nick went for the Halloumi Marvellous, a toasted wrap packed with grilled halloumi, creamy hummus, smashed avocado, spinach and fresh tomato, salty, smooth and satisfying in every bite. Ivanka chose the Sweet Potato Buddha bowl, a vibrant mix of roasted sweet potato, house-spiced black turtle beans, smashed avocado, giant couscous, tomato and baby spinach, all brought together with a maple and tahini dressing.

The team’s passion for coffee really shines through too. While we were there, they talked us through their guest single origin coffee from Brazil, which was incredible. If you’re a keen home brewer, you can pick up one of their blends to take away. Add in service that comes with a smile and a friendly team happy to make recommendations, and North Laine Cafe is a spot we’ll be heading back to.
