The best restaurants in Sussex are blessed with an abundance of fresh, local produce on their doorsteps, not to mention award-winning vineyards, stunning scenery, fabulous walks and historic attractions nearby.

One of the wonderful things about living in Brighton and Hove is just how easy it is to get to Sussex’s beautiful countryside on days when you fancy a change. We know you love to go exploring Sussex Finest and this selection of the best restaurants in Sussex gives you the chance to shout about the amazing places you’ve found, whether pubs in Sussex or a Sussex restaurant.

And the winner of the BRAVO for Sussex Finest goes to – Crabshack. Huge congratulations to their team for achieving the number one spot and being top of the tree for best restaurants in Sussex.

First place

Crabshack Worthing, Best Restaurant in Sussex 2023

Taking the best restaurant in Sussex for the first time is Crabshack in Worthing. Laid back, rustic, cool – this beachside hangout has attracted the attention of the national press for the amazing quality of the seafood dishes on its ‘small but perfect’ menu. Adored by locals, but firmly on the South Coast gastro-trail, this warm, comfortable restaurant has a gorgeous terrace overlooking the South Coast for days when the sun is shining. The menu changes to reflect both seasonal availability and the daily catch of seafood and fish. It features dishes like Sicilian fish stew, homemade crabcakes, whole dressed crab or a mixed fish plate to share with a friend. Everything about this marvellous place is delightfully fresh, and just 20 minutes from Brighton, we think you’d be mad not to pay a visit.

Second place

Pitch *permanently closed*

Now indisputably one of the best restaurants in Sussex, Pitch is the brilliant brainchild of Worthing darling, MasterChef champion Kenny Tutt. The menu at Pitch plays homage to the best local produce and is a celebration of modern and classic British and European food and wine. Expect perfectly executed dishes featuring the day’s catch, seasonal game or the best market produce. Choose from a carefully crafted wine and drinks list including a fabulous selection of cocktails. Every detail at Pitch has been thought through to maximise your enjoyment; from the sparkling aperitifs to the lavish desserts. A true Sussex gem.

Third place

With its relaxed atmosphere and delicious international menu, Morley’s Bistro rates as one of Sussex’s best restaurants. Found on the pretty high street of historic village Hurstpierpoint, this is a wonderful place to escape from the hustle and bustle of city life and enjoy some really excellent food with friends and family. The menu tours the globe featuring dishes influenced by the best of European, Asian and, of course, British cuisine. Daily specials showcase seasonal stars and you’ll find great bistro classics like steak frites, burgers or pie too. And to top it off, Morley’s Bistro does a seriously good Sunday Roast.
