Best pubs in Brighton – BRAVO 2024

Like being in the catchment of a great school, having one of the best pubs in Brighton on your doorstep probably adds a fortune to your rent. I mean – what more does one need? Your personal loyalty to your local may be strong but what makes it one of the best is the friendly staff, the great beer, delicious pub grub and fun events in perfect combination.

Luckily, the winners of the Best Brighton Pub category are scattered across the city so most of you should be within strolling distance of at least one of them. But don’t just stick to what you know, these brilliant Brighton pubs, Hove pubs, craft beer pubs and gastro pubs each deliver something unique and worthy of your consideration. Make it your mission to explore what’s on offer in 2024 – after all – pubs are as individual as the people who dreamt them up!

And the winner of the BRAVO for Best Local goes to – The Eddy (The Edinburgh). Huge congratulations to the team.

First place

Affectionately known as The Eddy, The Edinburgh Pub has won the BRAVO for Best Brighton Pub for the second year in a row! With such a lot of local pub talent, this is a real accolade, proving that your love for The Eddy extends well beyond its locals. At once a neighbourhood boozer and destination venue, The Eddy is family-run and full of character. It offers the whole package; perfectly poured pints, an excellent drinks menu, live music, sports, quiz nights and fun events. Plus the super-stylish, charismatic management and friendly team is sure to offer you a warm welcome when you visit. Ready, Eddy, GO!

Second place

An absolute Brighton classic, The Robin Hood pub in Norfolk Place is a city-centre pub with a neighbourhood feel. Winner of the BRAVOS Best Brighton Pub category in 2019, its enduring popularity is clear. In the same ownership for over a decade, The Robin Hood Brighton is a cosy, welcoming pub serving a classic selection of beers, wines and spirits. The food menu centres around hand made pizzas with tasty topping combinations including some great vegan options. There are also sausage rolls from The Brighton Sausage Co and bar snacks to accompany your perfect pint. The Robin Hood hosts regular quizzes, live music and street parties for the local community. Everything you could ask of a great local and more!

Third place

The Windmill

Over the almost 200 years since The Windmill opened its doors in 1828, the excellent team at The Windmill has had time to think of pretty much everything. From its back street location in Brighton’s Montpellier neighbourhood, this lovely pub boasts a south facing sun trap, open fire, Toad table and stunning new first floor function room. There’s an awesome collection of local Sussex beers including Larrikin, ABYSS and Unbarred. Regular events are an additional draw. The kitchen, Alberta’s at The Windmill, starts from the premise that ‘fast food needn’t be trash’ and boy does it deliver. A firm favourite with Brighton’s chefs and foodie, the menu is a riot of hot sandos served on Japanese milk subs, buttermilk fried chicken plus liver parfait, oysters mignonette and so much more. Don’t miss Sunday’s whole fried chicken or tempura pickles…we could go on and on…

The Windmill has also placed in the Best Roast and Best Team categories.
