Combining recipes from Gujarati and East Africa, Kitgum brings a truly unique offering to Brighton restaurants. Located on Preston Circus the restaurant is modernist-chic with food focused dining that champions flavour, quality and wholesome dishes. The small plates menu is recommended at two to three plates per person and no doubt you’ll be glad to sample more of the menu. The atmosphere is delightfully upbeat; infused with a binge worthy playlists and enticing smells from the open kitchen. There’s little wonder why Kitgum is has become one of the hot spots on Brighton’s culinary circuit 

Great food is not hard to find in this city. Pure veg and home-made Indian food is a different story. Majahma has brought something quite unique to Brighton and their flavourful, nutritious, homemade thalis are available by delivery only. By subscribing to their tiffin service, you’ll be able to indulge in their finish at home meals on a weekly or fortnightly basis. You can skip weeks or cancel at any time, however we doubt you’ll want to! Each tiffin tin typically contains a curry, dahl, salad or soup, rice and two freshly made chapatis. Once you’ve finished, simply clean and start the countdown to the next tahli day, when Nish (the friendly face of the company) will swap your empty with full fresh tiffin. 

You’ll find Dishoom‘s Permit Room in The Lanes. Its warm and inviting atmosphere, coupled with the gentle smell of incense and the best chai in town, will transport you to India. Planet India in Brighton has gained something nearing cult status in the city, especially for those who love to show off their knowledge of local gems. The food is entirely vegetarian about fifty per cent vegan, home-cooked Gujarati (ish) recipes passed down from mother to son and daughter in law. Flavours are immense, portions generous, prices are low and good times are guaranteed.

A family-run Indian bistro adjoining the glamorous MyHotel on Jubilee Square. Centrally located, this popular independent Brighton restaurant is large and brightly decorated with outside seating spilling into Jubilee square in summer months. The menu is inspired by chef and owner Alun Sperring’s own trips around India where he regularly returns to find new inspirations.

An institution in Brighton and Hove and if you haven’t ever been you must go for the experience. Situated on the beautiful First Avenue at the seafront end in Hove, this underground restaurant boasts its own ‘Tropical Bar’ for pre-dinner drinks, then the food itself is quite distinct and full of flavour – with the food and their curries being of Indonesian- Malaysian influence.

Malika Restaurant serves the finest pure Indian cuisine.     Brighton does not have a specific area where you find a concentration of Indian restaurants. In the Lanes there is Curry Leaf Cafe and Nooris with Planet India on Richmond Parade. On Preston Circus there is Kitgum Kitchen. The Chilli Pickle is situated in the Jubilee Square area of Brighton.
