With so many freelancers and creatives living and working in Brighton it is no surprise to discover that wi-fi ready cafés are in high demand. The search for a mobile workspace to get some work done can often be a pressing one, time is money as they say, but Brighton is rife with wi-fi ready spots.
Many people will already have their favourite haunts, but if you are looking for a new café from which to run your online empire or update your lifestyle blog then we have some suggestions for you. Not only do these venues offer the chance of getting online for free, but you can also grab a quality flat white or herbal tea with a pastry or smashed avocado and poached egg whilst you’re at it, perfect for your next Instagram post.
Ideally located on Ship Street in central Brighton, Trading Post Coffee are a specialist coffee house and roasters with plenty of working space. Situated across two floors you should have little problem in finding somewhere quiet to concentrate on your work. Their specialist coffees are roasted on site giving you a chance to sample some top quality single origin and blends to keep your motor running. With a full breakfast and lunch menu they can also provide you with enough sustenance to keep on track.
If you want to really impress your business meeting guests and make a lasting impression then look no further than Redroaster on St James Street. This utopian space with indoor greenery and impressive marble bar is one of the most eye catching spaces in Brighton; but it doesn’t stop there. This is by no means a style over substance café, with a superb food offering courtesy of former Michelin starred chef Matt Gillan and arguably Brighton’s favourite coffee. If you want to win at Instagram mobile working photos then Redroaster is the spot for you.
Named after owner, Tony Marks’ favourite Prince song, Starfish & Coffee is Hanover’s newest cafe and getting rave reviews from locals and out of towners alike. You may well recognise Tony’s dulcet tones from the radio waves of Juice FM where he DJs once a week, but now he’s more likely found serving up delicious fluffy pancakes, brunch delights and coffee roasted at Coffee at 33. WIFI is free and fast but they do have a no-laptop rule at weekends as things get busy with brunchers. Please note Coffee & Starfish are currently closed on Mondays.
Just a short walk along London Road from Presuming Ed’s you will find the quiet calm of Moksha. This independent café is a little more restrained and understated than its neighbour, making it ideal for a more tranquil work space or meeting venue. Moksha is a deceptively large space, meaning that tables are often available, and their own blend coffee and delicious cakes and pastries are just the ticket for when you are starting to lose focus or just need a little break from all that typing.
Situated in the leafy calm at the edge of Palmeira Square, V&H Café is a bright and airy space for those seeking a mobile workspace. This quality café is big on local sourcing and serves delicious hot and cold food throughout the day. If you are looking for the ideal spot for that morning meeting I can think of few better than V&H. With the seafront just a couple of minutes away, the burst of fresh sea air could be just what you need for that flash of inspiration or to break your mental block.
Flour Pot Bakery, Brighton & Hove
Another Brighton based chain with a number of venues across the city, Flour Pot Bakery have provided many an opportunity for the mobile workforce of Brighton. Wi-fi ready and bursting with freshly baked goods and delicious treats, Flour Pot is a big hit in the city. Their fresh bakes are the perfect way to ensure your business meeting goes to plan. When you are done working you can pick up a loaf of their superb bread and a few cakes to take home to celebrate your successful day of work.
Small Batch, Goldstone Villas
If you are looking for some familiarity as you work your way around the city then Small Batch has got your back. This Brighton based coffee chain has numerous sites across Brighton and Hove, but have recently opened a dedicated workspace (formerly their original roastery) in the Hove branch near the train station. Wi-fi ready with plenty of space to find a quiet spot to finish that latest pitch or business proposal, they also have plenty of power points and space to spread out. Their own roast coffee is some of the best in the city and open seven days a week you can rely on Small Batch to provide the perfect work spot!
The sister (or should that be brother given the name) café to the ever popular Marwood’s, Presuming Ed’s is a café that has been designed with work in mind. Just as quirky and ‘Brighton’ as Marwood’s, Ed’s has a slightly more focussed vibe with a dedicated work area with desks and plug sockets aplenty. The coffee is quality and the food very affordable making this a very viable working choice.
