Plant Champions 2019, welcome to vegan Brighton

There’s no shortage of vegan Brighton venues at this year’s BRAVO Awards, to be in with a chance in this city most good eateries need a strong selection of vegan and vegetarian dishes. This category is one many people feel passionate about, as the vegetarian and vegan Brighton scene blossoms we wanted to know who innovates and rethinks their plates.

Sponsored by The Kari Club, the BRAVO 2019 Plant Champion category wasn’t just for the vegan Brighton community to vote in, and wasn’t just for plant-only venues, we’re glad you all got involved.

1st place

Terre a Terre continues to be the vanguard of vegetarian restaurants in Brighton, achieving first place in the BRAVO Plant Champions category for a second year. A pioneer in the trend for plant-based dining, Terre a Terre continues to amaze even the most die-hard carnivore with their creative finesse.

2nd place

Opening her restaurant was the six-decade-long ambition of 82-year-old Manju who still runs the kitchen in her eponymously named restaurant on Trafalgar Street. If the backstory alone wasn’t enough to earn a place in your heart then the home cooked vegetarian cuisine was. Either way, your vote goes to show it’s never too late to chase a dream.

3rd place

Food For Friends has been serving Brighton and Hove since 1981 with many of Brighton’s most skilled chefs passing through the kitchen. For nearly forty years it’s been creating contemporary vegetarian cuisine and raking in accolades, including a top three in this year’s BRAVOs, a testament to the vivifying power of plants.
