Lunch is where the real bargains are in Brighton and Hove: a £10 pasta and drink lunch at Il Bistro, steak and chips for £16 at Kindling, or two courses for £20 at The Salt Room, where their beautiful new bar, restaurant and terrace look out over the sea. Midweek, Furna serves a feast of ten sharing plates for £35 per person every Wednesday and Thursday.

Heading to the theatre? The Coal Shed serves two courses for £19 before curtain up, while Burger and Lobster shucks oysters for just £1.50. Families can feast for less too, with kids eating free at Purezza and The Hartington, plus plenty of NHS, Blue Light, student and hospitality discounts across the city. The BRAVO Awards are the largest food and drink awards in Brighton and Hove, and they are decided entirely by the public. There are no critics and no judging panels, just people voting for the places they love. In 2026, a record 71,285 votes were cast for 724 venues across 18 categories, crowning the very best restaurants, pubs and cafés in Brighton, Hove and Sussex.

terre à terre reclaimed the crown for Best Brighton Restaurant, so book a table for its joyful, inventive vegetarian cooking and see what all the fuss is about. Newcomer Andalucia stormed to victory as Best Sussex Restaurant, Kindling’s charcoal cooking won Best Lunch, and Embers took Best Sunday Roast with its woodfired flavours.

For something more relaxed, Starfish and Coffee was voted Best Café and The Signalman Best Brighton Pub. The Eight Bells in Jevington was named Best Sussex Pub, the perfect reward after a South Downs ramble, while the Best Cocktails in the city are poured at The Grand.

Barbino arrives at Dots on North Road in early October with Mediterranean small plates and low intervention wines, while Gatherin has landed at The Greenhouse on Church Road in Hove with bold global small plates made for sharing.

Pizza fans can head to Connie’s Pizza at Komedia for London style pies such as Nduja e Stracciatella, and Plates by Phil Bartley, from the founder of Carne, is set to champion fresh catch from local boats on Norfolk Square. Irori brings Brighton its first Japanese street food truck, with charcoal grilled yakitori and crispy karaage, and Posh Pita on the seafront bakes its pitas fresh to order.
