Things to do in Brighton this June – The Scoop

Summer’s here – it’s official. As we head towards the solstice on Sunday 21 June, the days are getting longer, the evenings warmer and the urge to dine outside stronger. Don’t resist. This special season doesn’t last and it’s one of the very best for eating in the south of England. In no particular order, here’s our top 10 for June.

1. Father’s Day

Spare a thought for yer old dad and book in a roast at his favourite boozer this Father’s Day. Or perhaps he’d prefer champagne, afternoon tea or a swanky tasting menu at one of the finest restaurants in town. You know him best so it’s your call. Not sure what he fancies? Buy him a Restaurants Brighton Gift Voucher and let him decide.

2. Taste of Japan

The city has fallen for Japan this June. International Sushi Day lands on 18 June – the perfect excuse to book Wabi Sabi and new arrival Sora at Malmaison. Look out for Japanese BBQ evenings on the terrace this summer. Lunch at BRAVO winner MOGUMOGU, learn to make ramen with Brighton & Hove Community Kitchen or indulge in a Japanese Tea Experience with Kissako. Don’t miss Hanbi Japanese Market on 13 June.

9. What a Drag!

Not! This city loves drag and you’ll find some of the finest artists in the world right here. On the first Wednesday of every month (3 June), join glam hostess Cherry Bomb at The Farm Tavern. Soak up the rock ’n’ emo vibes and win fabulous prizes – plus 2 for £13 Cherry Bomb Sours. Then head to Shelter Hall on 18 June for a Pride Community Foundation fundraiser hosted by Alfie Ordinary – outrageous sing-alongs, prizes and, if you’re lucky… a giant conga line.

And if you’re looking to keep the celebrations going, DoubleTree by Hilton Brighton Metropole is hosting Pride: Through the Years on 27 June at Metropole Bar & Terrace – a huge afternoon party featuring drag performances, bingo, brunch, DJs and appearances from some of the UK’s best-known drag artists.

10. Make it Happen

Now for something totally different. Let’s all help make Lonnie’s dream a reality. The team behind Nanima needs your support to create the city’s only dedicated jazz and blues venue. It’s a Kickstarter campaign with excellent rewards – not least the evenings of brilliant music you’ll enjoy in future. Great news too that Nicky’s excellent food will stay on.
